Creating healthy habits is always important — but especially during the holiday season. Some of us find the season to be filled with joy and wonder, while others find it to be filled with stressful situations and anxious feelings. But one thing we all have in common is that we can benefit from building good habits to keep us grounded throughout the season.
By developing positive habits, you can create a foundation for success and prepare ahead of time so that you’re ready to enjoy the holidays.
- Set realistic goals. The holidays are a busy time for everyone, between parties and shopping and spending time with loved ones. Trying to accomplish too much at once is overwhelming and can lead to discouragement and anxiety. Start small and gradually work your way up.
- Make a plan – make that list and check it twice. Once you know what you want to achieve, make a plan of action. Having a roadmap will help keep you on track and motivated.
- Prioritize your own health, both physical and mental. Remember that it takes effort and consistency to develop new habits, so you’ll need to be patient with yourself and stick with it even when things get tough. A healthy you is a happier you, so continue to put your own health first as you navigate the busyness of the season.
- Reward yourself. Incentives are a great way to stay on track. When you reach milestones, give yourself a pat on the back or treat yourself to something you enjoy, whether it’s your favorite coffee or a new class you’ve been interested in.
