We are deeply committed to empowering you with the support, training, and resources you need to thrive in your career and make a meaningful impact on your clients’ lives. We’re inspired by the unique motivations that drive our students to pursue a future in behavioral healthcare, and we’re honored to be part of their journey. Every month, we spotlight a student who is making strides toward transforming lives and creating positive change in the world.

Our Student of the Month, Jose Chavez, shares his experience with ATI:

I am a Peer Advisor for the National College Resource Foundation, an organization that works along with the San Diego County of Education where I work at one of the Juvenile Halls. I got interested in becoming a drug and alcohol counselor based on my own life experiences. After maintaining sobriety for over 5 years, I decided I want to help others. My hobbies are playing my guitar, outdoor bodyweight workout, and going to the beach. I have one daughter named Alice, she is 11 years old. I also have five pets which are 3 dogs, 1 cat, 1 fish and 1 Tortoise.

There are two things I am passionate about: my physical, mental, and spiritual health and playing my guitar. Taking online courses makes it easier to obtain my education based on easy access navigating to the school’s portal and schedule of submitting assignments and attending class. I work full time and must attend to my daughter’s needs, so it becomes difficult attending in-person classes. I chose ATI because it stood out way more than others when gathering information. I also enjoy how we interact during our class sessions and the instructors make the class engaging and fun. When I get my certification, I want to apply for a position in the Juvenile Hall as a counselor and further continue to advance my education to obtain my license to possibly have my own practice in substance use disorder counselor.
