We are passionate about our mission to provide the support, training and resources to help you and your clients succeed. We love hearing and sharing the “whys” of those who are chasing their dreams of helping make the world a better place. Our students choose to pursue an education in the behavioral healthcare field for various reasons, and we’re proud to be a part of their journeys toward making a difference. Each month we feature a student who is on the path to truly making an impact on the lives of others.
Our Student of the Month, Reginald Smith, shares his experience with ATI:
I’m currently self-employed as an OTR truck driver and I own a gourmet sauce and seasoning company called “Pure Heat Gourmet Sauce”. It’s currently sold in over 500 grocery stores and at stlpureheat.com. My hobbies include roller skating, cooking, and spending time in the outdoors. I also have a pet monkey named Nino, a teacup poodle, a snake, and a bird! I’m very passionate about helping inner city kids and young adults avoid a life of crime and poverty.
I pursued education for drug and alcohol counselor related roles because I once dabbled in a life of substance abuse and dealing, which landed me in rehabs and prison. After doing some research, ATI appeared to be a good school with great instructors. I was also able to work at my own pace and it was very affordable. While studying at ATI, I really enjoyed meeting new people and hearing their stories or their “why”.
I’m in the process of opening a 50 bed, 90 day inpatient facility called “Pure Living Recovery and Rehabilitation Center” in East St. Louis, IL. What I enjoy most about my job is that it allows me to meet people of all walks of life. Once I become certified, it will allow me to counsel and mentor others who suffer from addiction. I feel that I’m accomplishing my biggest goals currently by completing the renovations at my center. I can’t say that I’m entirely where I want to be just yet, but with God’s graces and mercy, he’s definitely ordering my steps in that direction.
